AUTISM & ASD - What Every Teacher Needs to Know

Educators will examine pervasive developmental disorders according to the characteristics listed in the DSM IV. We will look at data and develop strategies for the classroom. Participants will learn how to create visual supports and social stories designed to teach students skills in verbal communication, social situations and conflict resolution. Sensory integration and auditory perception issues are also addressed.

$25 materials fee payable to the facilitator on the first day.





What Every Educator Needs to Know About Executive Functioning

Facilitator: Julie Kiricoples
Dates: October 17 & 24, 2009        Time: 8:30am - 2:30pm
Location: 40 Linnell Circle, Billerica
Cost: $150                PDP’s: 10

This workshop presents a theoretical framework for understanding Executive Function processes and the role they play in cognition, learning and development. Participants will also discover strategies that will enhance assessment and intervention for those with learning disabilities, nonverbal learning disabilities, and autistic spectrum disorders.

Day Two will focus on learning ways to support all students in building vital skills for reading, writing, and math. Participants will also examine teaching methods for enhancing children’s abilities to: plan time effectively, organize materials, prioritize, shift strategies, and monitor progress toward goals.

$10 materials fee payable to the facilitator on the first day.
