M.Ed./CAGS Educational Leadership and Management: Technology Leadership

Program Description
Fitchburg State College, in conjunction with the Merrimack Education Center, a nonprofit educational service center located in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, is pleased to offer a Technology track within the Masters of Educational Leadership and Management Program.
This program is designed to provide future leaders in technology to school systems. The technology degree track will provide an in-depth examination of the implications of the technology revolution that has the potential to transform teaching and learning in our schools. Special emphasis will be placed on the key role that technology leaders have in initiating the processes of change, technology integration, and faculty development. The technology track will include a variety of opportunities for hands-on, technology-based experiences, and will include critical core courses in educational leadership and management.
Guidelines for Program
  • Masters/ CAGS must be completed within six years
  • No more than nine credits may be taken during a semester
  • Up to six credits may be transferred if the courses meet the particular course content
  • Transferred courses are only valid if taken within six years of expected graduation date
  • Two courses (6 credits) may be taken prior to matriculation
  • No more than two 6000 level courses may be taken
There may be a charge for books and materials, which should not exceed $100 per course.
Tuition costs may change over the length of the program.
Eligibility Requirements
This specialized track is designed for future technology leaders who will be responsible for the strategic planning, development, and implementation of school-based technology plans. Candidates in this track will serve in pivotal roles as school-based technology leaders involved in analyzing technology issues; motivating faculty, staff, and students to accept technology adoptions; provide support during the change process; and communicating changes being undertaken to all stakeholders.

** Foundations of Educational Administration is substituted for Curriculum Leadership and Evaluation in the CAGS program
Anticipated Outcomes
Graduates in this track will:
  • Gain competence in the use of software applications as productivity and learning tools
  • Develop perspective on their daily work by examining the theory and practice of education
  • Create models that incorporate the use of technology to support effective teaching and curriculum development
  • Explore the use of instructional technology to address contemporary educational issues
  • Understand the implications of "digital literacy" for teaching and learning
  • Plan for building and maintaining technology infrastructure within a school system

  • A completed application for admission
  • Official transcript of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited College or University with a 2.8 or better GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Three letters of recommendation from individuals under whom the applicant has studied and/or under whose immediate supervision he/she has worked in a professional capacity; and/or from others who are in position to offer pertinent appraisal
  • An official report of the Miller Analogies Test Score, or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Test scores over five years old will not be accepted
  • Copy of teaching license
  • $25 matriculation fee
  • Professional Resume
  • Applicants to graduate initial licensure teacher preparation programs must successfully complete the literacy and communication subtests of the Massachusetts Test for Educator Licensure (MTEL) and submit passing scores as part of their application
  • All official transcripts for graduate level course work to be considered as transfer
(CAGS only)
  • An Official transcript of a Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • An appropriate teaching license
  • Minimum of three years teaching experience
  • MAT/GRE/GMAT exams not required
