MEC - Professional Development

Each year, more than 1,200 teachers and administrators take advantage of professional development programs and courses at the Merrimack Education Center (MEC). Programs help educators broaden and deepen their understanding of critical subject areas and apply this learning in their school districts. Whether honing skills in a highly specialized special education area, studying and preparing for licensure for an administrative position or undertaking graduate study in a subject of interest, educators find MEC to be an ideal resource for improving and enhancing professional abilities and career opportunities.

Programs and courses are conducted at state-of-the-art resource centers in Billerica, Topsfield (Northeast Consortium), and surrounding areas, and are scheduled at times that are convenient for working professionals.

Professional development is offered in the following areas:

Graduate courses in education and other academic areas are offered through partners like Fitchburg State University and Salem State University.
Masters and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) programs leading to advanced degrees in a wide range of disciplines and advanced graduate study in educational leadership and management.
Administrative licensure programs for qualified teachers offered through MEC's Merrimack Leadership Academy with locations in Billerica, Chelmsford and Topsfield, as well as other Massachusetts locations.
Mentor programs for principals and teachers who are looking for experience with professionals in the field.
